In 1919, after returning from the First World War, the young blacksmith Josef Schmitt (26.11.1896 - 21.06.1976) assists his father Philipp Schmitt (26.01.1859 - 28.11.1928), a skilled blacksmith, in building a new forge.
In 1921, Josef Schmitt receives the master craftsman's certificate from the Karlsruhe Chamber of Industry and Commerce and one year later opens the "Hammerwerk Gebrüder Schmitt" together with his brother Otto. Production is soon expanded to include axes, hatchets and other tools. In the 1930s, the "ADLER" brand is launched.
Today Tobias Schmitt, Josef's great-grandson, leads our company in the fourth generation. In over 100 years, the small village workshop has developed into an international specialist for forged forestry tools and garden equipment.
