100% Wool Work Coat, Dyed in Various Colors – Le Laboureur
Product Details
Marque: Le Laboureur
Weight: 1.20 kg

The work coat by Le Laboureur is an emblematic piece of French sartorial craftsmanship. Made in Digoin, Burgundy, in the historic workshop of the family-owned company founded in 1956, it continues the legacy of utilitarian garments worn throughout the 20th century by carpenters, joiners, workers, and craftsmen.

Crafted from 100% wool sourced from black sheep in Southern France, this coat is not a delicate tweed — it is a dense, rustic, naturally durable wool cloth. Designed for real-life use, it provides warmth, protection, and longevity — a garment built to last, not to follow trends.

The dyed colorways are crafted with great care, following the traditional methods upheld by Le Laboureur. Each fabric is deeply dyed to ensure rich, long-lasting color that ages gracefully over time.

This dyeing process is part of a demanding, craftsmanship-driven approach, where respect for the fiber and the integrity of the material come first. The resulting tones offer depth and character, with subtle variations that reflect an authentic process—far removed from standardized industrial production.

Adapted to both professional and everyday wear, this coat is comfortable yet refined thanks to its straight cut, signature workwear collar, and buttoned cuffs.

In short, the natural ecru tone effortlessly fits into the world of craft, workshop life, and the wardrobe of someone who values durability, authenticity, and honest materials.

Key Features

  • Materials: 100% dyed burel wool.
  • Design:
    • Traditional straight cut with roomy sleeves for ease of movement.
    • Iconic collar chevalier, characteristic of historical work jackets.
    • Fastening with 5 sturdy buttons in corozo, engraved with Le Laboureur, made by the century-old French company Kocher.
    • Buttoned cuffs for a secure fit.
    • Pockets: 2 lower patch pockets, 1 chest pocket on the heart side, 1 internal pocket for practical storage. The latter includes a spare button and the historic gold-embellished Le Laboureur label, a guarantee of authenticity.
    • Unisex: The most important thing is to measure correctly to get the right size, see the guide below.
  • Manufacturing: 100% Made in France, crafted in Digoin with predominantly French or European fabrics, respecting French traditions and craftsmanship.
  • Fabric Weight: 600 g/m² — guaranteeing robustness and longevity.
  • Durability: Designed to withstand demanding conditions on construction sites and in workshops, with reinforced seams and anti-wear fabric.
  • Versatility: Perfect for artisans (carpenters, masons, roofers) and highly sought after for a modern workwear look.
  • Comfort: Breathable wool and a cut designed for unrestricted movement
  • The wool used is naturally water-repellent thanks to the lanolin it contains, allowing it to shed light rain, snow, and moisture. However, it is not fully waterproof and will eventually absorb water if exposed to prolonged or heavy rainfall.

Size Guide

French sizes are different from North American sizes, SO IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU TAKE THE TIME TO MEASURE YOUR CHEST SIZE in order to choose the right size.

Note:

  • The fit is loose, typical of traditional workwear to facilitate movement. For a closer fit, consider sizing down. For example, I am 6'2" (188 cm) and can wear a size 3 for a snug fit or a size 4 for a looser fit.
  • To measure chest circumference, wrap a measuring tape around the widest part of your chest, under the armpits, keeping it snug but not tight. Lower your arms along your body to take the correct measurement.
