This axe is a variation of a traditional pattern fairly common in Northern Italy and Southeastern France.
Carpenter's axes 249 and 250 from the F. Bret et cie catalogue (1920, Isère) are quite similar to BR Rinaldi's Normale model.
It's classified as a carpenter's axe because it's highly valued for hewing work, both for scoring and joggling, watch the video here below. However, it can also make a very good axe for felling, bucking on the ground, and limbing.
With a thin blade and a fairly wide flared edge, this model offers a good balance between weight, ergonomics, and geometry.
Produced in Italy by BR Rinaldi, a family business that has been manufacturing hand-finished axes and semi-industrial tools of great quality and durability since 1780.
