Handcrafted Carving Hatchets

Last December, a customer purchased a Milano axe head. A few days later, he came back with a handle he had crafted himself for wood carving. A week later, he returned again — with an improved version.

Step by step, we worked together to refine the prototype — and that passionate customer has since become a La Cognée collaborator.

Thanks to this collaboration, we now offer a specialized carving handle, available for the Milano (wedged fit) and Barbuta 500 g (slip fit) models.

Each handle is hand-shaped, designed for perfect balance, fine control, and comfort during carving work.
We also offer edge profiling with a short, obtuse bevel on the dominant-hand side and a long, fine bevel on the other, for better penetration and support while carving — following Wille Sundqvist’s recommendations from his classic book Swedish Carving Techniques.
